Prosper was formed in late 1998 as a result of Keith Williams and efforts to find a local Support group, and with his General Practitioner\u2019s strong support. Originally the membership consisted mainly of service veterans. Both the Department of Veteran Affairs and the Vietnam Veterans\u2019 Counselling Services were tremendously helpful and supportive in the Group\u2019s early days. Currently the Group has a very helpful Professional Advisory Panel<\/em> with a small, but dedicated core of members.<\/strong><\/p>\n Prosper is affiliated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, a broad-based community organisation and the peak national body for prostate cancer in Australia. It drives research, helps educate people about prostate cancer and treatment options and offers support. Its national helpline is free to call, 1800 22 0099.<\/em><\/p>\n Prosper meet in Darwin on the 2nd Monday of every month (excluding January and any meeting date falling on a public holiday) at 7.30pm in the Harbour Room, Christ Church Cathedral, 2 Smith Street, Darwin. The Group\u2019s first priority is to support members and their families, which includes circulation of information sheets and other literature, giving members an opportunity to obtain a copy.<\/p>\n There’s a common saying that more men die with a prostate problem than from it. But that’s only true if you are lucky; or get to control prostate cancer as a result of finding out early enough.
